The Candy Pan

Imagine if Peter Pan 'discovered' candy.

We don't know, of course, if he already has or not... since Barrie makes no mention of it.  But it's fun to think about.  Me?  I can just imagine Peter shoveling it in once found it.

We do know that it's likely that he knows of sugar itself, as per the large rich cake of a jolly thickness with green sugar on it - but also recall that Wendy wouldn't let the boys eat it!

What made me think of this?

The touring show of Peter Pan from Kensington Gadens (the one with the amazing 360° projection system that began in London right in the park which I travelled all the way to England to see) posted on Facebook regarding their Candy Shop, boasting over 75 different treats and sweets.  Yummy!

The proverbial "kid in a candy story" as applies to Pan is a delicious thought indeed.  Especially if there's no 'mother' around to advise him not to partake too much lest he get a tummy ache!

Also, it brings to mind a fun crossover.   Let's say Pan loves candy so much... that he seeks out the BEST in the world... none other than Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.  Now THAT pairing I'd like to see.  Just for fun, mind you.  I haven't thought it entirely through, but the logistics of it being actually feasible are probably way off... maybe not.  But imagine Wonka interacting with Peter Pan.  Would they get along?  A sweet treat of pretending for the moment, though, eh?  Brings new meaning to Yes, I'm sweet, oh, I am sweet!

And that's your "silly but fun thing" for today.

Well, obviously Peter knows about chocolate, right? ;)

I'd imagine he would have learned about candy from the mainland (or possibly the Lost Boys?) if he knows about it, as I very much doubt there's any candy or candymaking going on in the Neverland (unless it's imaginary). Then again, I don't know how the pirates baked that cake....

I don't know if he and Willy Wonka would have gotten along, though--Peter Pan following the rules? Personally I'd like to see him be a karma Houdini to the punishments suffered by the bad kids in the chocolate factory.... XD

I'm going to go with your scenario. They would probably make each other nuts. Pan and rules - quite right. And a knack for thwarting the factory traps... indeed! Goodness, the bubble room (in the movie at Wilder least, I forget if that's in the book)would be no allure at all! And he could just ZIP through the tube and would probably break the Wonkavator...

oh what fun. :)

Exactly! XD (If it was in the book it didn't figure prevalently--certainly the scene of Charlie and Grandpa Joe stealing the Fizzy Lifting Drinks was NOT, nor was the part where Wonka got after them for it.) But yeah, it sure wouldn't! XD True--why would he even RIDE in the Wonkavator, though?

Because it's THERE, of course.
And to annoy Wonka he'd probably smash the glass of it... (for it's really The Great Glass Elevator)

As for how the pirates made a cake... they DO have a cook. ;)

I suppose....

"Oh my sainted pants! Oh my painted ants! Oh my crawling cats!"

Well, yes, but why would the cook of a pirate ship have the ingredients to bake a CAKE? (To say nothing of candy.)

Why wouldn't they? They must have sugar and such... and if you go on the assumption that the pirates are able to leave and come back, they could always restock/replunder. :)

Though I doubt they'd make candy.

Did pirates keep sugar? And I don't recall them leaving....

So do I.

Not actually sure if pirates keep sugar. Never had to look it up. I bet Andrea Jones would know off the top of her head!

Whether or not the pirates do (or can) leave the Neverland - I started to answer, then realized I should make it post. It will show up sooner or later.

I wouldn't think they would, to be honest--wouldn't it rot? I would think only trade ships would.... (But what do I know? I have no idea what pirates keep on their ships! :P ) I would HOPE Andrea knows....

I'm sure they CAN, I just don't think they ever DID (in Peter and Wendy), not even when they thought Peter Pan was dead....
