DISenchanted? Gracious No!

Well, if you haven't already heard, Disney is moving forward with a sequel to Enchanted.

I loved Enchanted, as is evident in this post. But even as much as I loved those characters and situations... I don't think I need more of them. Let it stay nicely packaged and pefect. It seems a shame to create more havoc for all the happy endings there, doesn't it?

But I'd love to be proven wrong in this case... perhaps it's of the Pixar caliber and they've been able to take it to the next logical level. They're striving to reassemble the original cast, so there's some hope. And after all, Giselle would want us to have hope!

Disney Hits...Then Disney Misses...

Just when I gave them praise for their magnificent movie Enchanted, Disney goes and makes another screw up. Just look at what they've done with their version of Peter Pan as part of their "Disney Heroes" line of toys/action figures. I mean, seriously. Pan is NOT Robin Hood, people. Or perhaps they think he's DC's Green Arrow? What's with the lankiness? The extended boots and gloves? The way too long feather? (*sigh* on the feather in general) The mask?! Haven't they done enough already with their version of Pan? Don't get me wrong, their animated film is okay...it's Disney. (Don't get me started on their 'sequel' though) I do have some issues with their Peter Pan (which I will explain at a later date) but otherwise it is what it is...another "Disneyized" version of something. But making him into some kind of "Hero" like this is just pathethic. You don't even want to see the monstrosity that is supposed to be Hook's hook. (And on the wrong arm, I might add, but, I'll address this later, as I said.) Sheesh.

Princely Parody

I finally watched Enchanted. I meant to see it in the theater. Dare I say it? Enchanting. It’s always nice to see a movie that doesn’t take itself seriously while treating its source material reverently. Sometimes the folks at the House of Mouse hit the mark and this time they did it by striking the arrow into their own heart. They gleefully poke fun at their formula. Nearly if not all of the animated fairy tale features are represented in allusions and nods, presented in style. Wonderful tunes are sung with ridiculous lyrics…but well crafted ridiculous lyrics. The performances do a fairy tale proud. At one point I commented that I had never heard the line “I wish you every happiness” spoken with such sincerity. The F/X team and creative visionaries shined. Granted it may not be cinema ready for the annals. But it is artful. Don’t dodge it.
