of the birth

of Sir J.M. Barrie.

Truly, what else can I say?

I certainly hope I've done him proud.

BARRIE DAY, But of course!

SHAME ON ME!

The date today DID sound familiar, I assure you.

But not until Andrea Jones sent me a "Happy Barrie Day!" on Facebook did it hit me.

Fie on me, who forgoteth to demarcate the anniversary of the man who would not stop playing games and brought the world such a joyous myth.

Hail to thee, Sir James Matthew Barrie.  Forgive my behaving like your most beloved character!

Born Into the World...

It's that day again...

the anniversary of the one on which the man who created the world's most well know addition to the 'puer aeternus' mythology entered the world!

Thank you, Mr. Barrie - now, then and always.

150 Years of Mothering (and then some!)

It's QUITE the day.

Not only is it
Mother's Day
but it's also the
150 Anniversaryof the birth of Sir J.M. Barrie.
Given his history with his own mother as well as the way mothers are so integral not only to his most well known story of Peter Pan, but in all his work as well, it's quite a staggering coincidence. How perfectly lovely that the calendar should conspire for this synchronization!

So here's an extra special hurrah for both Barrie and mothers everywhere.

She went from bed to bed singing enchantments over them, and little Michael flung his arms round her. “Mother,” he cried, “I’m glad of you.”

An Historical Day

Once again it is the anniversary of the day that Sir James Matthew Barrie entered into our reality. He left his mark, and we salute him. (I know I do!) Last year I displayed a special decorative, (commemorative?) envelope featuring Barrie. See it and read how I obtained it here.



Just imagine if I paraded around like Schroeder in Peanuts.

As if inspired by Barrie's celebratory day, I came up with a location that shall be found on NeverWorld in subsequent adventures. I've hinted and teased quite a bit about projects... so I'll let you in on this new idea: Londoom. Like the charming city we all know but as a darker, nightmarish, dangerous version. Peter will recognize it...until he flies in closer. I almost want to write some of it now. But it shall have to wait.

He Wanted a Home...We Gave Him Our Hearts

The Endearing Bear from Darkest Peru

As Google will show you, today is the 50th Anniversary of the release of the first book about Paddington Bear. Another one of the literary legends to come out of London.
His creator, Michael Bond, is still with us and in fact just released a new Paddington adventure Paddington Here and Now.

I remember reading at least one of the Paddington Books as a kid. I probably read them all. I had a box set. But I do know he'd been one of my favorite stuffed animals at the very least. Mine even had the rain boots.

Look in the back left of this picture of the bronze statue in Paddington Station. It's a sad sign of the times, no? Well, at least a mythological character is their logo, so maybe it's not such an invasion. Maybe it's a testament to this adorable little critter that he has endured to see such a sign.

So, bravo, Michael Bond. Thanks for one of the cutest bears we know!
